To activate soil productivity, soil fertility and ensure long term soil health – rock phosphate has the potential to generate higher yields and increase soil carbon sequestration, making your operation more profitable, resilient and climate-friendly.
Fertoz works closely with agronomists and third party soil specialists to test your soil for soil organic carbon sequestered as a result of using our products. Certificates will be awarded indicating potential carbon credit rewards based on sequestered carbon in the soil.
Reducing Carbon Emissions
Fertoz will help farmers lower their carbon footprint by offering phosphate fertilizers that emit substantially less (~ 1/10th) CO2 emissions during its production phase.
The production of sedimentary rock phosphate is simple – physical mining, crushing, and screening – reducing CO2 emissions compared to chemical extraction fertilizer production methods. No phosphorgypsum waste is accumulated through processing of rock phosphate.
For every ton of P2O5 from MAP or DAP replaced by Rock Phosphate, expect a CO2 emission reduction of approximately half a ton of CO2 from fertilizer production, or the equivalent of half a carbon credit. Canada’s actions to reduce emissions from industry involve pricing emissions from large polluters that emit over 50,000 tonnes of carbon per year as part of the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act. California and EU have similar policies. This system is implemented in any province that currently does not have its own regulations including Manitoba and Ontario. Large emitters in Saskatchewan will be expected to comply with provincial emission standards and pay a carbon price for every tonne of CO2 emitted if not meeting performance standards. In some North American locations, and expected to be included in the Saskatchewan regulations, carbon credits can be purchased to shelter from the carbon tax.

Step 2: Switch your land fertility practice by replacing your conventional P fertilizer with rock phosphate to reduce carbon emissions from fertilizer manufacturing and enhance soil health through the use of natural sustainable fertilizers. Add organic approved fertilizer to your organic operation to enhance yield, improve soil health and increase carbon sequestration. Tell us about your other management changes, such as reduced tillage, crop rotations, or cover crops.
Step 3. Let our third-party testing and agronomy experts test your soil and calculate carbon offsets based on your management changes. We might ask you for historical data. All of your information remains confidential. Your carbon credits will be verified by our trading partners.
Step 4. Fertoz will issue a carbon credit certificate indicating carbon emissions reduced and carbon sequestered.
Step 5. Receive compensation for the carbon credits earned once your credits are sold to organizations looking to offset their carbon emissions.
